Migrant Hawker Aeshna mixta47 viewsPublic Hide @ Leighton Moss RSPB reserve is a terrific place to try & get shots of Dragonflies in flight as they patrol up & down right in front of the hide, it probably takes 50 shots to get one decent one, but can be worth the effort.

Migrant Hawker40 viewsphotographed from Public Hide @ Leighton Moss RSPB reserve, likely to be a Migrant Hawker because of it's characteristically stopping mid air & hovering for a few seconds every so often - a good time to try & focus on them & get a shot.

Southern Hawker Aeshna cyanea51 viewstaken into the sun from distance using my 500mm lens which resulted in quite unusual colours. Now ID'd as a Southern Hawker becuase: - the size of its antehumeral stripes, the lack of yellow along the costa eliminates Common Hawker, the stripes on the 9th and 10th abdomen segments (rather than spots), & the small size of the anal clasper rules out Migrant Hawker.

Hawker Dragonfly93 viewsthis Hawker had somehow managed to land in the water & was struggling for it's life, alas it was well out of reach or I would've scooped it out & put it somewhere to dry out .
